Mr. Rod Moorman, the Career Pathways Coordinator for the Auglaize Mercer Business Education Alliance visited Don Berry's CBI classroom during November explaining many ways to find a great career.

Mr. Moorman spoke to all Tri Star students attending the Ed Complex classes emphasizing the need for skilled workers and that students should carefully plan their career path. Mr. Moorman understands local companies' wants and needs, and explained the importance of leaving high school with plans and goals in mind. High school students should consider all options and make the best choices for themselves. Over 90% of Tri Star students live and work in Auglaize and Mercer counties - what a great place to be!

Career Based Intervention, CBI Students Earn Welding Certificates

Ethan Laffin (top photo in grey) and Hunter Wycuff (above in black), students in Tri Star’s Career Based Intervention class, recently completed a 90 hour adult welding class to earn a Basic Welding Certification. The pair are seniors at Celina High School. Career Based Intervention instructor, Don Berry, is shown presenting their certificates. The adult welding class is sponsored by the West Central Ohio Workforce Development Initiative and Tri Star Career Compact. The next session of the adult welding program will be offered after the first of the year. Interested adults should contact Angela Hamberg at 419-629-2447.

Tri Star Career Compact would like to congratulate Sr. CBI student Colin Homan for earning his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Colin is a Sr. at Marion Local High School and attends CBI class at Tri Star-Celina. He currently works for Mike’s Sanitation in New Bremen and also is a pole vaulter for the Marion Local track team.


Tri Star Career Compact is very proud of Colin Homan for earning this valuable credential and wishes him continued success. CBI is a respected work study program which enables students to earn experience by working at local businesses and also obtain important work skills through classroom involvement.

Congratulations Jaden Heitkamp!

Tri Star Career Compact would like to congratulate Jaden Heitkamp for becoming eligible for full coverage to the Apollo Career Centers’ Multi-Craft Industrial Technology (MIT) program from AAP St. Marys Corporation after completing his one-year apprenticeship.


The MIT program is a 900 hour (15 month) course with tuition of over $11,000.00 which Jaden will receive with zero dollars out-of-pocket. Jaden is a 2015 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and Tri Star CBI-St. Marys.


As a Tri Star Career Tech student, Jaden had the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and exposure to job opportunities. Jaden is currently working at AAP St. Marys Corporation with a career path of industrial maintenance engineer.


Because of Jaden’s involvement with Tri Star, he is avoiding college debt, gaining vital work experience, and has embarked on a career field that is very much in demand. Jaden’s CBI instructor was Don Berry. Tri Star Career Compact is very proud of Jaden and his accomplishments and wishes him future success!

Tri Star's Career Based Intervention (CBI) program, taught by Don Berry and Brian Stetler, was recently awarded an "Exemplary" rating following a Quality Standards Review. Dee Sturgill, a Career Technical consultant to the Ohio Department of Education, spent over two hours evaluating:
teachers' lesson plans and how they relate to the technical content standards
Career Technical Student Organizations
documentation of advisory committee meetings
documentation of assessments
program promotion
teacher-parent interaction
stakeholder interaction


The review puts Tri Star's program in the category of one of the best in the state. Congratulations to Mr. Berry and Mr. Stetler for their hard work.

Congratulations to Garret Winget on Welding Certificate

Congratulations to Garret Winget, a Celina junior CBI student that saw the value of learning a skill. Garret recently completed the 90 hour welding course sponsored by the West Central Ohio Workforce Development Initiative (WCOWDI) and taught evenings at Tri Star's Dennings building in St. Marys. Garret also manages to hold down a job at Duesway Manufacturing in Celina and participates in football and track.
